Programs and classes in The Hive are open to all ages, unless otherwise noted. However, programs for The Hive are generally designed for an adult audience, unless the program is specifically for a youth audience. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian during a program or class in The Hive.

LibCal Indicates registration is required. Registration typically opens two weeks before the event.

Laser Cut Pin Boards 
Wednesday, September 18, 6-8 p.m.
Ticket Needed | The Hive

Learn how to use the Library’s laser cutter to make unique bulletin or pin boards out of cork. All supplies will be provided. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Tickets will be handed out at the The Hive service desk 30 minutes prior to the class start time. Attendees must have a ticket to attend.

Heat Transfer Vinyl Design for Fabric LibCal
Wednesday, October 2, 6-8 p.m.

We will walk attendees through the process of designing and creating custom vinyl appliques for fabric using the Library’s Silhouette Cameo 3 and Cricut EasyPress 2. Registration opens two weeks before the program. Click here to register.

Reusable Fabric Gift Tags

Reusable gift tags are a fun, easy way to make any gift unique. Make reusable gift tags for family and friends with the Library’s sewing machines. All supplies will be provided. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Tickets will be handed out at the The Hive service desk 30 minutes prior to the class start time. Attendees must have a ticket to attend.

TinkerCAD: Beginner 3D Design LibCal

Learn how to create simple 3D objects in Tinkercad, a free online 3D software. Tinkercad account activation required prior to class. Children under 13 must be accompanied by their parent or adult caregiver. Registration opens two weeks before the program.

Resin Petri Dish Coasters LibCal
Saturday, October 26, 1-4 p.m.
Registration Required | The Hive

Participants will learn the very basics of resin mixing and pigmenting with alcohol ink. We will make small coasters in silicone molds. Resin is very messy, so participants are strongly encouraged to wear clothing and shoes that can get dirty and/or bring their own aprons. Resin will take time to cure, so the finished pieces cannot be released from molds and taken home until Tuesday, October 29. Registration opens two weeks before the program. Click here to register.

Laser Techniques - Jewelry LibCal

Reusable Fabric Gift Bags

Fabric gift bags cut down on wasted paper and money. Learn how to make them with the Library’s sewing machines. All supplies will be provided. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Mixed Media Series - Puzzles LibCal
Thursday, December 12, 6:30-8 p.m.

Learn how to design a puzzle using the Silhouette Studio software and export it for use on the laser cutter.  Learn what materials are best for jigsaw puzzles and other puzzle applications.  Registration opens two weeks before the program. Click here to register.

Learn the basic safety requirements for using the Library’s makerspace equipment in these short machine courses. Each session is focused on one machine and includes safety, tips, and a brief Q & A. Hive 101 training is required before makers are cleared for independent use of the equipment. Reserve your seat at lewisville.libcal.com. Registration opens two weeks before each training.

Hive 101: Open Sewing Machine Training
2nd Tuesday of each month, 5-7 p.m.
No Registration | The Hive

Drop in anytime between 5-7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month to learn the basic safety requirements for using our Brother sewing machines within the makerspace. Attendees will learn how to wind the bobbin, thread the machine, and do basic stitches.
