Programs and classes in The Hive are open to all ages, unless otherwise noted. However, programs for The Hive are generally designed for an adult audience, unless the program is specifically for a youth audience. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian during a program or class in The Hive.

Women in Space
Wednesday, May 29, 3-6 p.m.
First Come, First Serve | The Hive

In honor of Sally Ride Day, make & take lasered rockets will be available in The Hive. Drop-in, put your rocket together, and learn about women in space. NOTE: Rockets are not functional. They are for decorative purposes. Supplies are available while they last. 

Laser Techniques - Family Tree
Thursday, June 13, 6:30-8 p.m.
Ticket Needed | The Hive

We will discuss techniques for preparation of a family tree plaque and other applications for the laser in CorelDraw. Free tickets are distributed from the Hive Service Desk on a first come, first served basis beginning 30 minutes before the class start time.

Space-Themed Mod Podge Magnets
Saturday, June 15, 2-4 p.m.
Ticket Needed | The Hive

Back by popular demand, this project uses laser-cut wood, scraps of paper, paint, and Mod Podge to create a unique magnet. Wood pieces will have a space theme. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Free tickets are distributed from the Hive Service Desk on a first come, first served basis beginning 30 minutes before the class start time.

Sewing Topics: Hemming & Pillows
Tuesday, June 18, 6:30-8 p.m.
Registration Required | The Hive 

Bring your own hemming or pillow project, ask questions, and learn specific sewing techniques from a sewing expert. Space is limited to 6 attendees.  Registration is required. Registration begins on May 28.  Call The Hive at 972.219.3690 to register.

Laser Star Lanterns
Thursday, June 27, 6:30-8 p.m.
Ticket Needed | The Hive

Learn how to use The Hive’s Epilog Laser Engraver to make lanterns for candles. All supplies are provided. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Tickets will be handed out at the The Hive service desk 30 minutes prior to the class start time. Attendees must have a ticket to attend.  For adults age 18 and up only.

Lasered Mini-Canvases
Saturday, June 29, 2-4 p.m.
Ticket Needed | The Hive

In this workshop, participants will be able to laser a black painted mini-canvas to reveal a white image of their choosing. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Free tickets are distributed from the Hive Service Desk on a first come, first served basis beginning 30 minutes before the class start time.

Blender Workshop - Q&A
Wednesday, July 10, 6:30-8 p.m.
No Registration | The Hive
Drop into an open session for 3D modeling, animation, and design. All levels of skill are welcome to attend. Bring any and all questions you have or have been curious about! Everything Blender can do will be highlighted in this live demonstration. 10 Laptops with Blender loaded will be available for use or bring your own.

Infinity Scarf Sewing
Tuesday, July 16, 6:30-8 p.m.

Making an infinity scarf is an easy beginner project for novice sewers. All supplies are provided. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Tickets will be handed out at the The Hive service desk 30 minutes prior to the class start time. Attendees must have a ticket to attend.  For adults age 18 and up only.

Silhouette Cameo: Decals
Saturday, July 27, 2-4 p.m.

Learn how to create custom vinyl decals using the Silhouette Cameo. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Free tickets are distributed from the Hive Service Desk on a first come, first served basis beginning 30 minutes before the class start time.

Quilting Basics

Maker Show and Tell
2nd Wednesday of each month 6:30-8 p.m.

Join other makers in this informal meet-up. Share ideas, successes, and failures. This is a come-and-go discussion group.

Learn the basic safety requirements for using the Library’s makerspace equipment in these short machine courses. Each session is focused on one machine and includes safety, tips, and a brief Q & A. Hive 101 training is required before makers are cleared for independent use of the equipment. Space is limited to 6 attendees. Free tickets are distributed from the Hive Service Desk on a first come, first served basis beginning 30 minutes before the class start time.

1st Thursday of each month, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
1st Saturday of each month, 3-4 p.m.

Hive 101: Carvey - CNC Milling Machine
2nd Saturday of each month, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Hive 101: Embroidery Machine
2nd Saturday of each month, 3-4 p.m.

Hive 101: Open Sewing Machine Training
2nd Tuesday of each month, 5-7 p.m.
Drop in anytime between 5-7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month to learn the basic safety requirements for using our Brother sewing machines within the makerspace. Attendees will learn how to wind the bobbin, thread the machine, and do basic stitches. Others are invited to come in for an informal sewing meetup.
