Programs and classes in The Hive are open to all ages, unless otherwise noted. However, programs for The Hive are generally designed for an adult audience, unless the program is specifically for a youth audience. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian during a program or class in The Hive.

Learn more advanced options and techniques for using the 3D graphics software, Blender. Blender is a free, open-source program. Bring your own laptop with Blender installed, or use one provided by the library in this interactive session. Space is limited to 10. Laser Photo Techniques

Introduction to Sewing

Get hands-on experience using a sewing machine at the library! Sewing machines to practice on will be provided, but attendees who already own a sewing machine are welcome to bring their own. Children age 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Teens under the age of 18 do not need to be accompanied by an adult, but must have a parent or guardian submit a signed Hive user agreement before taking the class. Registration is required. Registration for the February class begins on January 15. Registration for the April class begins on March 15. Call the Adult Services Desk at 972.219.3779 to register.

Silhouette Cameo: Decals

Learn how to create custom vinyl decals using the SIlhouette Cameo. Space is limited to 10 attendees. Free tickets are distributed from the Hive Service Desk on a first come, first served basis beginning 30 minutes before the class start time.

Sewing Topics: Hemming & Pillows

Canva for Laser Design
Wednesday, February 20, 6-7 p.m.

Canva is a free, easy-to-use website that can be used for social media images and simple marketing materials. You can also use Canva to create designs for the Library's laser cutter! In this class, you will learn how to create your own designs for personalized items and gifts. Space is limited to 6 attendees. Free tickets are distributed from the Hive Service Desk on a first come, first served basis beginning 30 minutes before the class start time.

Tinkercad

Learn how to create simple 3D objects in Tinkercad, a free online 3D software. Tinkercad account activation required prior to class. Heat Transfer Vinyl Design for Fabric

Stay Crafty: Adult Craft Night

Make it and take it home at Stay Crafty, Lewisville Public Library's monthly craft event! All supplies are provided. Registration is not required, but space is limited. Tickets will be handed out at the The Hive service desk 30 minutes prior to the class start time. Attendees must have a ticket to attend. For adults age 18 and up only.

Learn the basic safety requirements for using the Library’s makerspace equipment in these short machine courses. Each session is focused on one machine and includes safety, tips, and a brief Q & A. Hive 101 training is required before makers are cleared for independent use of the equipment. Space is limited to 6 attendees. Free tickets are distributed from the Hive Service Desk on a first come, first served basis beginning 30 minutes before the class start time.

Hive 101: Open Sewing Machine Training
2nd Tuesday of each month, 5-7 p.m. (No training in January)
Drop in anytime between 5-7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month to learn the basic safety requirements for using our Brother sewing machines within the makerspace. Attendees will learn how to wind the bobbin, thread the machine, and do basic stitches. Others are invited to come in for an informal sewing meetup.
