The Hive, Lewisville Public Library's makerspace, is home to innovation and creativity. A library card and signed user agreement is required to use the equipment. Some equipment requires advance completion of safety training. Walk-ins are welcome pending equipment availability. Reservations are recommended.

What is The Hive?

The Hive, Lewisville Public Library's makerspace, is home to innovation and creativity. The Hive features 3D printers, two laser cutters, a Carvey CNC milling machine, sewing machines, an embroidery machine, sublimation printer, Silhouette CAMEO, design software, and more. Software available on the Design Computers includes:

KiSSlicer
NetFabb
MeshMixer
CorelDraw
Gimp
Embrilliance
Silhouette Studio
Mint Studio

A collaboration space is also included in The Hive, featuring mobile tables, chairs, and whiteboard which allow users to alter the workspace to fit their needs.

All Makers, regardless of age, must have a Lewisville Library card in good standing to use The Hive equipment and kits, as well as a signed user agreement. Underage makers will have to secure a card with their guardian or parent. Click here to view The Hive User Guidelines.

Makers of all kinds are welcome in The Hive! Who are Makers? Self-starters. Creators. Artists. Thinkers. Geeks. Crafters. Really, anyone who wants to learn, experiment, and create!

The Hive is located in the northeast corner on the first floor of the Lewisville Public Library.

Hours of Operation

Using The Hive

The Hive equipment is available for walk-in use pending equipment availability. A reservation is recommended.

A valid full-privilege Lewisville library card in good standing is required to make a reservation and checkout equipment in The Hive.
A signed Hive Use Agreement and Liability for Use Form acknowledging the user guidelines must be on file at The Hive before a maker is allowed use of the equipment. The Use Agreement must be signed in person at The Hive.
Makers are limited to one reservation per machine type per week (excluding the 3D printers). After a reservation has been used, if available, Makers can use a machine on a first come, first serve basis.
Reservations may be made up to one week in advance via the Library's Online Reservation system, by phone, or in person.
Since Makers are expected to monitor their projects at all times, only one machine may be reserved or checked out at a time.
Training is required before using certain equipment in The Hive. Patrons new to The Hive must complete the online training before making a reservation. Click here to access the online equipment training.
