Library Volunteer Program for Adults

Adult volunteer opportunities are available at the Library for anyone ages 18 and over. However, the Library does not offer volunteer hours for those needing court-ordered community service hours. Adult volunteers primarily work in the Library Accounts department as sorters and shelvers, but also help with other miscellaneous tasks such as cleaning media items, searching for books on the shelves, and other special projects that help maintain the quality of our Library.

Potential volunteers must register for and attend an in-person orientation. If accepted to the program, volunteers must then complete the City of Lewisville volunteer packet and pass a background check before being scheduled to work at the Library. Volunteers are expected to work at least two, two-hour shifts per month to maintain active volunteer status.

Next Adult Volunteer Orientation: January 2025

Library Volunteer Program for Teens

The Teen Volunteer Program is open to teens ages 14-18 looking for non-court-appointed volunteer hours. Teen Volunteers provide support to the Youth Services Team through a variety of activities including collection maintenance and program preparation.

Teen Volunteers are also invited to assist with special events throughout the year. In order to join the team, prospective volunteers must register for and attend an informational Teen Volunteer Orientation Session where we will go over the guidelines and expectations of our program. Once prospective volunteers have returned the necessary paperwork, they will be eligible to volunteer.

Volunteers may earn up to six hours per week, not including special programs. Hours are available on a first-come, first-served basis and scheduled via the Youth Services Desk up to two weeks in advance.

Not only is the Teen Volunteer Program a great way to earn volunteer hours for NHS or other school clubs, it is a great opportunity to give back to the community and learn skills that will translate well into job and college applications.

Visit the Teen Page for orientation information and dates.

Teen Advisory Group

The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is an active group of teens ages 13-18 who meet on the first Thursday of each month in the Library's Teen Point to give input on Teen programs and services at the Library. TAG members also plan Library programs, serve as liaisons between the Library and area schools, and represent the Library during community outreach and service projects.

TAG is a fun way to start building leadership and planning skills, to learn more about what the Library has to offer, to ensure that teens have a voice in the Library, and to meet other service-minded teens.

To join TAG, complete an application and return it to the Youth Services Desk. Click here to download the application, or pick up an application at the Library's Youth Services Desk or at a TAG meeting.

Visit the Teen Page for upcoming TAG meeting dates.
