Library Volunteer Program for Adults

Adult volunteer opportunities are available at the Library for anyone ages 18 and over. However, the Library does not offer volunteer hours for those needing court-ordered community service hours. Adult volunteers primarily work in the Library Accounts department as sorters and shelvers, but also help with other miscellaneous tasks such as cleaning media items, searching for books on the shelves, and other special projects that help maintain the quality of our Library.

Steps to Volunteer:

  1. Visit the City of Lewisville's volunteer portal, click the Sign Up button and register as a volunteer. A background check is included as part of the registration process.
  2. Once successfully registered and eligible as a City volunteer, attend an in-person library volunteer orientation. Library volunteers must attend an orientation before scheduling a volunteer shift at the Library. The Library's Adult Volunteer Coordinator will contact eligible individuals to schedule an orientation.
  3. Begin volunteering at the Library! Volunteers are expected to work at least two, two-hour shifts per month to maintain active volunteer status.

Library Volunteer Program for Teens
The Teen Volunteer Program is open to teens ages 14-18 looking for non-court-appointed volunteer hours. Teen Volunteers provide support to the Youth Services Team through a variety of activities including collection maintenance, program preparation, and assistance with special events.  Not only is the Teen Volunteer Program a great way to earn volunteer hours for NHS or other school clubs, it is a great opportunity to give back to the community and learn skills that will translate well into job and college applications.

Steps to Volunteer:
  1. Visit the City of Lewisville's volunteer portal, click the Sign Up button and register as a volunteer. Part of the registration process included a waiver that must be signed by a parent or guardian.
  2. Once successfully registered and eligible as a City volunteer, attend a mandatory in-person Library Teen Volunteer Orientation. Orientation includes a short shelving test. Teens must pass the shelving test in order to be scheduled for volunteer shifts. The Library's Teen Volunteer Coordinator will contact eligible teens when an orientation is scheduled.
  3. Begin volunteering at the Library! Teen volunteers may earn up to six hours per week, not including special programs. Hours are available on a first-come, first-served basis and scheduled via the Youth Services Desk up to two weeks in advance.
