English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL Classes for Adults

Free English as a Second Language classes for adults are provided by North Texas Adult Education & Literacy, a department of Denton ISD, and funded by the Texas Workforce Commission. Registration is required. To register, call Denton ISD at 940.369.0400, email aelcontact@dentonisd.org, or text 940.252.4682. Note: Individuals who previously attended the classes will need to register again. If classes at the Library are full, call Denton ISD at 940.369.0400 for alternate locations with openings.  

  • Intermediate ESL Class - Tuesdays & Thursdays | 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

  • Beginner ESL Class - Tuesdays & Thursdays | 1-3:30 p.m.

Learning ESL Online with Mango

Mango, an online language learning tool, includes ESL courses for 21 different native languages. Mango is available to Lewisville library cardholders and is accessible on a computer or via the Mango app on a mobile device. Create a Mango account to keep track of progress and pick up where you leave off.

High School Equivalency (aka GED) 

GED Classes for Adults
Mondays and Wednesdays | 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Library Computer Lab
Free High School Equivalency (aka GED) classes for adults are designed to prepare eligible adults who lack a high school diploma to take the GED high school equivalency exam. These classes are provided by North Texas Adult Education & Literacy, a department of Denton ISD, and funded by the Texas Workforce Commission. 

  • Registration is required. To register, call Denton ISD at 940.369.0400, email aelcontact@dentonisd.org, or text 940.252.4682.
  • Individuals who previously attended the classes will need to register again.
  • A Lewisville library card is required to access a computer during the class. Library cards are free to Texas residents with a current government issued photo ID and proof of current address. Patrons who are unable to get a library card may use a temporary guest pass. Library cards and guest passes are issued at the Library's Information Desk.
  • NOTE: These classes are to prepare individuals for the exam. The GED exam is not administered at the Library. Click here for GED Test Taker information and to locate a test center.

 

Prepare for the GED Test with LearningExpress

The High School Equivalency Center in LearningExpress Library provides guided support and preparation to help individuals earn their high school equivalency credential, also know as the GED. LearningExpress Library is available to Lewisville library cardholders through the TexShare online databases collection.

A LearningExpress account is required to access the materials in this resource. Access the LearningExpress Library from the Library's Learning Tools page, then create an account using your email address to access the GED tutorials, flashcards, eBooks, and practice tests.
