Any resident of the state of Texas is eligible for a free Lewisville library card. However, the online library card application is only available to adult residents of the City of Lewisville.
Lewisville residents ages 18 and up who do not already have a library card may register online for a full privilege card. You will need your government issued ID and an email address to register. After successfully completing the online application, you will receive a confirmation email that includes your library card number. Once you have your card number you can immediately begin borrowing from the Library's digital collections, accessing online resources, and placing holds on items for pick up.
A physical library card will not be issued with this online process. It is recommended that you save your library card number in the cloudLibrary mobile app where it can be used in-person at the Library to check out physical materials, or through the cloudLibrary app to borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, and digital magazines. When you visit the Library to borrow physical materials, you will need to present your library card number in the cloudLibrary app or your driver's license/ID.
If you are a Texas resident but do not live in Lewisville, please visit the Library in-person to get a library card. Stop by the Library Accounts Desk and present your government issued photo ID and proof of Texas address. A staff member will issue you a physical card. It only takes a few minutes!
Parents and legal guardians wishing to get a library card for their child will still need to visit the Library in-person. Children and teens ages 5-17 may receive a full privilege card in their name, if accompanied by their parent or guardian with the proper identification and proof of address.
A PIN is required, in addition to your library card number, in order to access your library account online. A random PIN was generated and given to you at the time that you applied for your library card.
If you have forgotten your PIN, you can reset it online by going to the Library account login page, and clicking on 'Forgot my PIN' and entering your library card number. This feature will allow you to reset your PIN by way of the email address on file in your library account. If you are unable to reset your PIN online, please visit the Accounts Desk.

Card Renewal
Full Privilege and Student library cards expire every two years. TexShare cards expire one year after date issued.

Accounts need to be in good standing with a balance under $5.00 in order to be renewed.
Homebound cards expire every two years. Expired accounts in good standing may renew their library card by submitting a new application.

Items may be checked out on one of the Library’s three self-checkout machines or at the drive-up window. The self-checkout machines also enable a card holder to review their account for information relating to items currently checked out, items on hold, and outstanding fees.
View the brief How-To videos at the bottom of this page for instructions on logging into your library account online, placing a hold, and more.
Renewing Library Materials
Items eligible for renewal may be renewed up to three times, as long as there are no holds on the item. View information on loan periods and renewals by material type. After three renewals, an item will need to be returned and checked out again at the Accounts Desk.
Materials eligible for renewal may be renewed by one of various ways:
- Online via My Account
- In the cloudLibrary mobile app (no more than two days from the due date and as long as the item is not already overdue)
- At one of the Library’s three self-checkout machines inside the Library
- At the drive-up window
- Over the phone by calling the Accounts Desk at 972.219.3570, option 2
Items returned through any of our book returns (i.e. inside or drive-up book drops) are automatically checked in and cleared from the account.
The drive-up book drop is located off Civic Circle on the west side of the Library and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
After returning items, log into My Account or visit a self-check kiosk in the Library to confirm all items placed in a book drop have been removed from your account.
Patrons can view their checkout history online by logging into My Account. Manage the recording and display of your checkout history in the Personal Information >> Preferences section in My Account.
View the brief How-To video at the bottom of this page for instructions on logging into your library account online.
The Lewisville Public Library does not charge daily overdue fines. Once an item is overdue, your library card will be temporarily frozen until the item is returned or renewed. If an item is not returned by 30 days from the due date, it is deemed lost and will be billed the cost of the item plus a $5.00 non-refundable processing fee. Mobile HotSpots are the exception and are billed an overdue fine of $3.00 per day.
Fees for lost and damaged items still apply. If a borrowed Lewisville item is lost or damaged beyond repair, the account is billed for the replacement cost of the item plus a $5.00 non-refundable processing fee. The Library also charges fees for lost parts or damaged pieces.
Overdue Items
The Library's materials are for sharing and all items should be returned promptly. Patrons are notified of due dates at the time of checkout. As a courtesy, throughout the loan of an item, the Library provides notifications to remind the cardholder of upcoming due dates and allow for renewal.
Accounts with an overdue item will be temporarily frozen. You would then be unable to check out further print and electronic materials, use the public use computers or laptops, request or receive Interlibrary loans, use in-house use equipment, the makerspace and digital media lab, and meeting rooms until all overdue items are renewed or returned.
If a Lewisville item is not returned within 30 days of the due date, the item is deemed lost and the account is billed for the replacement cost of the item plus a $5.00 non-refundable processing fee. If the item is returned in good condition within 90 days of the due date, the replacement cost of the item will be removed from the account. The $5.00 processing fee is non-refundable.
If an item is damaged beyond repair, the account is billed for the cost of the item plus a $5.00 non-refundable processing fee.
The parent who established the account is financially responsible for all fees billed to Teen or Juvenile accounts.
Accumulated Fees of $5 or More
Depending on the account type, fines or fees of $5.00 or more will block the account and prevent check out of print and electronic materials, in-house use equipment, makerspace and digital media lab equipment, meeting or study rooms, use of the public use computers and laptops, or requests for Interlibrary Loans until the account balance is below $5.00.
Payment Options
- At the Accounts Desk or drive-up window where a balance can be paid by cash, check, or credit card
- At the self-check kiosks located in the Library lobby with a credit card
- Online with a credit card by logging into My Account and clicking the Pay Fines button. Library card number and PIN are required to log into My Account.
Refunds for Lost Items
If a patron pays for a lost item but later finds it within 90 days of the original due date, the Library does have a refund procedure. The Library will refund the replacement cost of the item when it is returned to the Library in good condition within 90 days of the due date. The processing fee is non-refundable. If there are other outstanding bills on the account, the refund will be applied to the balance and any remaining monies will be refunded. Refunds are issued by the City of Lewisville and may take up to two weeks to be received.
