CloudLibrary Frequently Asked Questions

The CloudLibrary app is compatible with most mobile devices including those that run on Apple iOS and Android. 

CloudLibrary is compatible with the Kindle Fire tablet but not other Kindle eReaders. With the release of the CloudLibrary mobile app version 5.9.4, the CloudLibrary app is now available for Kindle Fire directly from the Amazon App Store.

Lewisville library cardholders may checkout up to five items at a time in CloudLibrary, and may place a hold on up to five items at a time. This can be any combination of ebooks and audiobooks.

Ebooks and audiobooks in CloudLibrary checkout for 21 days.

When finished, return the item early or allow the item to automatically return after 21 days.

Yes, you can borrow the ebook and audiobook of the same title at one time. Each format is counted as a separate checkout toward your limit of five checkouts at once. It's also important to note that the two versions will not sync with each other as you read and listen.  

Reasons why titles may "disappear" from CloudLibrary: 

1. Many publishers place restrictions on their digital titles for library use. Some titles expire after a certain number of checkouts or after a 1 to 2 year period after purchase. When that title expires from the Lewisville Public Library's collection, it automatically disappears from CloudLibrary. The Library may or may not decide to purchase that title again. 
   
   
2. The title in question may be owned by one of the CloudLink libraries. CloudLinking is a partnership among multiple Texas libraries that allow members of the group to share their CloudLibrary titles.
   • If an eBook or eAudiobook owned by the Lewisville Public Library is being borrowed, the other CloudLinked libraries cannot see that title. When that title is available with no holds, it is then visible and available to the other CloudLinked libraries for their cardholders to borrow. Conversely, items owned by the other libraries that are available with no holds will be visible and available for Lewisville cardholders to borrow.
   • Thus, you may see a title one day, that is owned by another library, then that title gets borrowed by someone and becomes invisible to you. If you saw a title that you want to read, and it is has now disappeared, try checking for it again in 2-3 weeks in case it was just checked out by someone at its home library.

CloudLinking allows the Lewisville Public Library to partner with multiple public libraries across Texas to expand our cloudLibrary eBook and eAudiobook collections. Cardholders have access to thousands of additional titles through the CloudLibrary app!

How it works:

• If an eBook or eAudiobook owned by the Lewisville Public Library is being borrowed, the other CloudLinked libraries cannot see that title. When that title is available with no holds, it is then visible and available to the other CloudLinked libraries for their cardholders to borrow.
• Conversely, items owned by the other libraries that are available with no holds will be visible and available for Lewisville cardholders to borrow.
• CloudLinked library cardholders may only place a hold on titles owned by their home library, so Lewisville cardholders will only be able to place a hold on eBook and eAudiobook titles owned by the Lewisville Public Library.

Kids Mode is a feature on the CloudLibrary app that allows readers to access kid-friendly books and audiobooks. The Kids Mode interface is designed for young readers, making browsing easier and featuring brighter colors, fun graphics, bigger buttons, and access to kid-friendly content. 

In the CloudLibrary app, tap the Kids Mode tile on the home screen or go to the Account, then toggle on Kids Mode. Parents can a four-digit PIN when turning on Kids Mode and the PIN is required to turn it off. 

   

First, make sure you have the most recent version of the CloudLibrary app installed on your device. New versions of the app are issued periodically to release new features and fix any issues. Visit your app store to update the app.  

Many issues can be resolved with the following steps:

1. Log out of the CloudLibrary app and log back in.

If issues persist, try these steps:

1. Delete the CloudLibrary app from your device.
2. Power OFF your device and wait 1-2 minutes.
3. Power ON your device.
4. Download and re-install the CloudLibrary app.
5. Log into the app.
6. Re-download any titles you have borrowed.

No. Some print books may never appear as eBooks or eAudiobooks. Also, some titles are only published as eBooks and never as print books. And, some eBooks are not available for purchase by libraries.

For the average consumer, the eBook is cheaper to purchase than the print book, but not for libraries. The price you see for an eBook (or eAudiobook) is typically much less than the price the library must pay.
